Shinkawa Shoichi was one of the 10,000 players who were trapped in «Sword Art Online» where he was infamously known as Red-Eyed XaXa, a member of the infamous red guild: «Laughing Coffin». He later would become a candidate for ARGUS's Suicide Squad project, before being released by an AWOL Kayaba Akihiko and joining up with him in forming a second Knights of the Blood.

Shinkawa prospers from the same Bleed Effect as the other survivors of SAO; while most try to accumulate normal lives on top of these new abilities Shinkawa continued to expand them. His strengh and speed are on par with Kirigaya "Kirito" Kazuto, but he has chosen a preference for guns over the standard bladed weapons most SAO players are familiar with. He is a skilled marksmen as a result of this.
