The Serenity-class cruiser is a heavy cruiser classification in service with the UNSC Navy.
Technology and Combat characteristics[]
Built as heavy hitters of the UNSC fleet, the Serenity class incorporates the latest of Human technology into a vessel. For armor protection the Serenity is protected by several layers of Titanium sandwiched between enhanced nanolaminate plates. Shields consist of overlapping hardlight shielding and a contact shield. The primary armament is an Super Mass accelerator Cannon, multi-purpose Verthandi that can fire between 4,000 ton rounds, plasma beams or special particles. Secondary armament is six triple-mount mass accelerator cannons, thousands of missiles and torpedo tubes. The remaining armament consists of arrays of laser or traditional defensive cannons. The Serenity is capable of intercepting vessels in FTL with a potential future ability to do so for Fold and Cineris equivalent.
An experimental ion-cannon was fitted to the UNSC Johnston. It uses exotic matter accelerated to the speed of light that could possibly obliterate a 30km Covenant battle station in one hit. The Johnston also is a test bed for a refined version of the Slipspace disruption device found on the Infinity-class.
Development & History[]
Serenity was awarded to SinoViet in 2567 with the intent to build 20. Improvements in technology and war would disrupt the process of making the ships. Later the size of the ship would be changed and the initial hull was scrapped. The first ship would finally be undergoing trials in 2581. By then the UNSC wanted another much more ships built that initially planned for in the massive naval build up program.
