The Kestral Class Stealth Battle Cruiser is a class of battle cruisers operated by the UCR Navy. Built to replace Pre-New Dawn Conflict and contemporary heavy cruisers, the ships of this class can perform various command roles from lead ships of small task groups to flagships of a battle group. Despite their classification as Battle cruisers, they are larger than some navy's battleships.
Technologies and Combat CharacteristicsEdit
At 3.5 Kilometers, the Kestrel Class Battle Cruiser is the largest UCR Capital ship after the Island Class Carrier Battleships. Armed with a large amount of weapons, the Kestrel Class is known to be one of the most heavily armed front line warships in the New United Nations, capable of combating a large array of threats.
Like the rest of the UCR's next generation ships, the Kestrel Class are classified as Stealth Ships, despite their size. This is thanks to the a mix of Active Stealth, Passive Stealth and a special Stealth Coating that were incorporated into it during it's construction.
The Class incorprates a ship graded variant of Energy Converting Armor. The ECA takes energy from the ship's power supply, and utilize it to strengthen the armor. When used in conjuction with the Pin-Point/Full Barrier shielding system grants all Legacy ships the durability to laugh off damage from certain weaponry that would normally have stopped previous generation of UCR Ships completely.

In 2558, the UCR Navy began looking for a suitable replacement for their 2520 era Heavy Cruisers. Northern Star Heavy Engineering's general board began preperations for the new class of warships. In 2560, three designs were submitted, labled "A23", "B75", and "C47". Designs A23 and B75 were a smaller, 3 Kilometer version of the Island Mk.II and the then under development Island Mk.III Stealth Attack Battleship, while design C47 was an enlarged version of the XDG(S)-3650 Class Stealth Destroyer that was also under development at the time.
In late 2563, it was announced that a modified version of the C47 design, known as C47E1, was chosen. During the modification process, the design was enlarged from 2.8 Kilometers to 3.5 Kilometers, more heavy and light dual purpose beam weaponry and point defenses such as short range high maneuverability missiles and 60mm beam CIWS were added.
Although the new design was chosen, construction would not begin on the new ships until a little over a decade later due to funds being directed towards other priorities, such as rebuilding UCR infracstructure damaged during the New Dawn Conflict and the 2558 Wraith Incursion.
At the start of the second year of the Vagan Conflict, funds were procured for the construction of the first three ships. As the war went on, an additional seven were added. However, as the war near it's end, construction slowed and once again, other priorities took precedent over the battle cruisers.
The first ship of the class, Kestrel, would not be finished until December of 2576.
TRM Civil WarEdit
The Kestrel Class ships would first see combat during the TRM Civil War. Kestrel and sister ship Sampson were present at the battles of Winterfell and King's Landing in January of 2577, proving to to be more than a match for Coup d'etat vessels. Kestrel and Sampson assisted the battleship Avadora in disabling the Pride of the Core, flagship of the coup forces.
Kestrel and Sampson were then joined by Solaria and Triton in February of 2577. By this point the threat by the Coup fleet was diminished, and the four battle cruisers mostly participated in support operations for UCR ground forces and patrols. After the war, the four cruisers stayed over Little Rock until they returned to UCR territory in early March. By this point, sister ships Repulse, Verdant, and Ravana were operational.
Raid of NipponEdit
Battlecruisers Repule, Verdant, Solaria and the recently commissioned Vespira were present as part of the NUNSintervention force during the attempted invasion of Nippon by the CGE in April of 2577. After the withdrawal of CGE forces, Verdant and Solaria escorted transports tasked with picking up the Exon soldiers who were stranded on one of the moons and later brought them to Sanghelios. Repulse and Vespira patrolled the outlying territories. All ships would return to UCR Space 73 hours after the attack. The last two ships of the first batch, Arthas and Ranger were commissioned afterwards. Sampson and Solaria would later be transferred to Andromeda.
Construction for the second batch of eight was approved in June of that year.
Retaking of Chi'jirmaEdit
The Sampson was part of the NUNS Task Force sent to retake the world of Chi'jirma by Ex-Vagan militants in November of 2577. Sampson led Concordant vessels, breaking through the enemy defense line that was comprised of hastily modified freighters and old warships. It then supported the ground troops with air strikes and fire from it's cannons.
In October of 2577, Ranger, Arthas and a task group were deployed to Cineris two hours after receiving a disturbing message from the cinnamon planet.
Expedition to SagittariusEdit
In March of 2578, the cruiser Triton left it's home port to embark on a nine-month expedition to the Sagittarius Drawf satellite galaxy as an escort for research vessels. Triton returned to it's home port after the conclusion of the expedition for a 1 year refit and upgrade period.
Nearly all of the battle cruisers with the exception of the Triton and Ranger were present at Osea when the giant spirit robot controlled by Teridax arrived at the colony with hostile intent. Despite their amazing display of firepower, the robot was barely fazed. Most if not all of the cruisers were left undamaged by the end of the battle. Cruisers Kestrel, Sampson, and Solaria stayed over the planet to oversee recovery operations above and on the planet.
Three more cruisers were commissioned since 2578. The Alacrity, Astral Horizon, and Brimir make up the current Group II Kestrel Class ships. Most of the class have been assigned to 2-ship Divisions with the exception of Ranger. Most of these divisions spent most of 2579 and 2580 patrolling friendly space, with Battle Cruiser Divisions 3, 6 and 4 primarily engaging in combat against Vagan Remnants in the Andromeda Galaxy. Ranger was appointed as flagship of the Brisingr Cluster Fleet in 2579. An additional seven ships of Group II and the Group III batches were approved for construction in early 2580.
Due to the recent terrorist attack that struck Miridiem and Cineris, all Kestrel Class ships were put on high alert for possible attacks on UCR or allied territories.
Starting with the unfinished UCR Albatross, three Kestrel Class vessels are to be outfitted with new certain technologies and weaponry of the Group III batch of vessels for operational evaluation and data collection.
